The management of the Gulf and the lagoons is very important and critical for the further sustainable development in the subject “river basin” due to, (a) the existence of concentrated economical activity demanding clean water, (b) the high importance of the area a from a nature conservation and ecological point of view, (c) the fact that it is receiving the majority of the pollution generated in the whole “river basin”.
In order to reach its overall objective, the project actions are designed and organized across four main objectives (the projects are grouped within these objectives, or across their borders):
01. To establish and implement a system to determine the ecological status of the “River basin”, and the capacity of the “River basin” taking into account the WD regulations and the individual water user’s requirements.
02. The reduction of pollution load flowing into the “river basin” system.
03. To increase the water receiving capacity of the “river basin” including the lagoons and gulf.
04. To achieve synergy with other initiatives and ensure the effective communication with and the active participation of stakeholders.
