Institutions of Concretisation
The Prefecture of Arta with the Preveza Prefecture are the promoters of the project "Management, restoration and enhancement of wetland of international importance Amvrakikos Gulf, which has been approved under the Program of the EOX Financial Mechanism (Financed by 75% from XM and 25% by PDE) and monitored by Cohesion.
The Technical and scientific support of the project promoter is the Development Agency of South Epirus Amvrakikos SA Municipality (ETANAM SA).
The project is a continuation of actions undertaken under the LIFE Nature and INTERREG II, prepared and submitted for funding ETANAM SA Local Authorities in collaboration with Prefectures of Arta and Preveza.
Region of Application
The area of reference and application of this proposal is the wider area of Amvrakikos Gulf, situated in Northwestern Greece included within the administrative borders of the Prefectures of Arta and Preveza.
The northern part of the Gulf is shaped by three rivers and their catchment areas and consequently a complex of associated river plains, mouths, fresh and salt water marshes and lagoons has been formed. The NATURA 2000 site GR 2110001 “Amvrakikos Gulf, Louros and Arachthos Delta ”, which also includes the Special Protection Area GR 2110004 “Amvrakikos Gulf has been proposed as a Site of Community Importance and is a designated Wetland of International Importance.
